An 8×6 heat-lover's patch: Sugar Baby watermelon, cantaloupe, Armenian cucumber, and Korean melons behind a pollinator front line.
About This Template
Melons demand three things — heat, room, and bees — and this patch is engineered around all of them. The entire north edge is a pollinator runway: sunflower corners, zinnias, borage, and bee balm whose only job is to fill the patch with the bees that every melon flower needs on the morning it opens. Behind that front line, the sprawl section begins: a Sugar Baby watermelon (the compact icebox variety that actually ripens in temperate summers), a classic cantaloupe, and an Armenian cucumber — botanically a melon, eaten like a cucumber, unstoppable in heat. The back rows run smaller-fruited muskmelons and Korean melons, whose fist-size fruits ripen fast and sweet. Black plastic or stone mulch under the vines turns sunshine into the root heat melons crave.

Growing Tips
