PlotMyGarden v1.0 — Your Free Garden Planning Tool Is Here

We're thrilled to announce the official launch of PlotMyGarden v1.0 — a free, privacy-first garden planning tool built for gardeners of every level. Whether you're planting your first tomato or managing a sprawling permaculture plot, PlotMyGarden gives you everything you need to plan, plant, and grow with confidence.

Here's everything that's packed into this release.

Visual Garden Planner

At the heart of PlotMyGarden is an interactive, grid-based garden designer powered by a full canvas editor. You can drag and drop plants and elements onto your garden plot, resize and rearrange them, and see your layout come to life in real time.

  • Five editing tools: Select, Place, Erase, Pan, and Edit Shape — switch between them with keyboard shortcuts (V, P, E, H, S)
  • Custom plot shapes: Start with a rectangle, L-shape, or U-shape — or paint a completely custom plot shape cell by cell
  • Undo & redo: Full history support (Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Shift+Z) so you can experiment freely
  • Zoom & pan: Navigate large gardens easily with zoom controls and the pan tool
  • Auto-save: Your garden saves automatically every few seconds — and you can also save manually with Ctrl+S

1,000+ Plant Database

PlotMyGarden ships with a comprehensive library of over 1,000 plants spanning five categories:

  • Vegetables — from tomatoes and peppers to leafy greens and root vegetables
  • Herbs — basil, rosemary, mint, and dozens more
  • Fruits — strawberries, blueberries, citrus, and beyond
  • Flowers — pollinator-friendly blooms, ornamentals, and wildflowers
  • Trees — fruit trees, shade trees, and ornamental varieties

Every plant comes with detailed growing information: sun requirements, water needs, spacing, days to maturity, frost tolerance, planting and harvest months, hardiness zones, and companion/incompatible plant relationships.

PlotMyGarden automatically determines your USDA hardiness zone using GPS geolocation — or you can search for your city manually. Your zone is used throughout the app to:

Weather Dashboard
